New Delhi: Adani Defence and Aerospace planed to firm up its proposal to establish a Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility for engines powering narrow-body commercial aircraft within the next 18 months. The announcement, made by CEO Ashish Rajvanshi at the Aviation India and South Asia 2026 conference in New Delhi on November 3, signaled the company’s proposed expansion into India’s growing aviation maintenance sector.

Rajvanshi said that the company could also explore setting up a Final Assembly Line (FAL) for aircraft engines after the MRO facility is established. However, both developments remain at the planning stage, with no confirmed investment, location, manufacturing partner or implementation timeline announced.

The proposal came as India’s civil aviation market expands rapidly, with the country’s commercial aircraft fleet projected to triple to around 2,250 aircraft over the next decade. The growing fleet is expected to drive demand for maintenance, repair and overhaul services, creating opportunities to develop India as a major regional aviation MRO hub.

The market opportunity also extended beyond aircraft engines. Airbus estimated in a January report that India’s market for aircraft structures, engines and components could triple to USD 9.5 billion by 2035. This growth is expected to increase demand for domestic maintenance capabilities, technical expertise and aerospace supply-chain infrastructure.

Adani Defence has already strengthened its presence in the MRO sector through the acquisition of Air Works, a major private-sector aviation MRO company, by Adani Defence Systems & Technologies Ltd (ADSTL) in 2025. The proposed engine MRO facility could further expand the group’s role in India’s commercial aviation ecosystem.
