New Delhi: Speaking at the occasion of 93rd anniversary of the Indian Air Force (IAF), Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan commended the IAF for repeatedly demonstrating how air power can shape strategic outcomes, citing Operation Sindoor as a recent example where the Force reaffirmed its ability to strike deep inside enemy territory with precision.
Gen Chauhan extended his warm greetings to all Air Force personnel, veterans, civilians, and their families, lauding the Force for its distinguished service to the nation.

The CDS highlighted the operational excellence of the IAF’s intricate network of sensors and radars, which effectively tracked and engaged enemy aircraft, aerial weapons, and drones. He noted that Surface-to-Air Missile (SAM) and Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems (CUAS) units of the IAF, supported by Indian Army Air Defence units, functioned seamlessly under the Integrated Air Command and Control System (IACCS), producing “outstanding results during Operation Sindoor.”
General Chauhan further commended the IAF’s continuous efforts towards modernisation, including the induction of indigenous platforms, adoption of advanced weapon systems, and the evolution of doctrines to operate across the full aerospace continuum.
Highlighting the evolving nature of warfare, he stated, “the character of war is undergoing a profound change, with future conflicts expected to be technology-driven, rapid, and contested across multiple domains. Under these conditions, air power shall be the dominant factor in modern combat.”
Praising the IAF for its distinguished legacy, General Chauhan said the Force embodies courage, professionalism, and selfless service to the nation — not only in combat but also through its humanitarian missions.
CDS also underscored the IAF’s vital role as a dependable first responder during humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) operations. “The IAF has consistently displayed its reach and responsiveness by rescuing civilians caught in conflict zones and delivering critical aid during natural disasters,” he said, adding that over the decades, the IAF has stood as a symbol of valour, safeguarding the nation’s skies and coming to the aid of citizens during natural calamities.
