Washington: India and the United States are continuing high-level engagement on defence, trade and technology cooperation, with Indian Ambassador to the US Vinay Mohan Kwatra holding discussions with US Congressman Bill Huizenga on strengthening bilateral cooperation across key strategic sectors.
The discussions came at a time when the India-US relationship is increasingly expanding beyond traditional defence procurement towards technology partnerships, industrial cooperation, resilient supply chains and advanced defence capabilities.
Defence remains one of the strongest pillars of the bilateral relationship. Recent developments, including India's agreement to acquire the US-made Javelin anti-tank missile system, have highlighted the growing depth of military cooperation between New Delhi and Washington. The agreement has also opened discussions around potential avenues for greater defence-industrial cooperation and co-production in India.

Technology is becoming an equally important component of the relationship. Both countries have been pursuing cooperation in areas including artificial intelligence, critical and emerging technologies, defence innovation and trusted supply chains. Platforms such as the India-US Defense Acceleration Ecosystem (INDUS-X) are designed to connect defence companies, startups and research institutions from both countries.
India is increasingly seeking technology, manufacturing capabilities and supply-chain partnerships, rather than relying solely on finished defence imports. For Washington, deeper cooperation with India provides access to one of the world's largest markets while strengthening a strategic partnership with a major Indo-Pacific power.
This convergence is particularly relevant as both countries seek to build more resilient technology and defence supply chains amid growing geopolitical competition.
The relationship also has an important Indo-Pacific dimension. Greater defence interoperability, technology cooperation and strategic coordination between India and the US can contribute to the broader balance of power in the region, particularly as both countries support a free and open Indo-Pacific.
The latest engagement therefore reflects a relationship that is no longer defined by defence purchases alone but by sharing similar defence capabilities, technological power and economic resilience.
