New Delhi: General NS Raja Subramani, PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, on Saturday assumed charge as the third Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and Secretary, Department of Military Affairs. He acknowledged the leadership and contribution of his predecessors and said he would work towards strengthening jointness, integration and operational synergy among the Defence Forces.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Defence, General Subramani emphasised the need for accelerated development, induction and integration of indigenous weapons and systems to achieve the government’s vision of Aatmanirbharta in defence capability development.
He said the Defence Forces would continue to work in coordination with all stakeholders under the Whole-of-Nation approach to further strengthen national security.
A major part of General Subramani’s remarks focused on military modernisation, innovation and capability enhancement across the Defence Forces.
According to the statement, he called for innovation in thought and action, along with greater collaboration among stakeholders to support capability development and operational preparedness.
General Subramani also complimented the Defence Forces for their professionalism and operational readiness and reiterated his commitment towards strengthening training standards and ensuring the welfare of veterans and Veer Naris.
He urged all ranks to embrace change, uphold military ethos and continue striving for excellence across operational and institutional domains.
Earlier in the day, General Subramani laid a wreath at the National War Memorial in New Delhi and paid homage to soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in service of the nation.
The CDS was also presented a Tri-Service Guard of Honour at the South Block lawns.
A highly decorated officer with over four decades of military service, General Subramani was commissioned into the Garhwal Rifles in December 1985.

His distinguished career includes several important command and staff appointments, including General Officer Commanding, 2 Corps; General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Central Command; and Vice Chief of the Army Staff.
Prior to assuming charge as CDS, he served as Military adviser at the National Security Council Secretariat.
