The conversation comes as India and Germany mark 75 years of diplomatic relations this year. According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Modi and Merz expressed satisfaction with the sustained momentum in high-level exchanges and reviewed progress across trade and investment, advanced technologies, clean energy, defence, education and talent mobility.

The two leaders also exchanged views on regional and global developments of mutual interest and agreed to continue working closely to promote global peace, stability and prosperity.

The latest contact comes amid a broader expansion of India-Germany ties beyond their traditional economic relationship. Defence cooperation, advanced technology, clean energy and resilient supply chains are increasingly becoming important elements of the strategic partnership.

For India, Germany remains an important European partner for advanced industrial technology, investment and manufacturing, while Berlin increasingly views India as a major economic and strategic partner in the Indo-Pacific and a potential pillar of more diversified global supply chains.

The phone conversation therefore reinforces the trajectory of a relationship that is becoming increasingly multidimensional—linking trade and investment with defence, advanced technology, energy, education and strategic cooperation.
