Kenyan Defence Minister visits Goa Shipyard Ltd

The CMD, GSL apprised the Cabinet Secretary for Defence (CSD) of the ship design, shipbuilding & ship repair capabilities of GSL.

Panaji: A high level delegation from Kenya led by Kenyan Cabinet Secretary for Defence Aden Bare Duale visited GSL on August 31. The delegation included High Commissioner of Kenya in India, Amb Willy K Bett and Director General of Kenya Shipyards Limited (KSL), Maj Gen. Paul Otieno.

The CMD, GSL apprised the Cabinet Secretary for Defence (CSD) of the ship design, shipbuilding & ship repair capabilities of GSL. The Cabinet Secretary took keen interest in the modernised infrastructure capability of the shipyard as well as the diversified product range of GSL, which will find application in the maritime sector of Kenya. The CSD expressed his desire for closer collaboration between Goa Shipyard Limited & Kenya Shipyards Limited, both Government owned Shipyards in their respective countries, in Indian Ocean Region.

The high level delegation Is on a 3-day visit to India from 29-31 Aug 2023. In a significant development in the area of defence co-operation between two countries, GSL & KSL signed an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during the bilateral meeting held between Hon’ble Defence Minister of India, Rajnath Singh and Aden Bare Duale, Cabinet Secretary for Defence of Kenya on Aug 29, 2023 at New Delhi. The MoU is aimed at providing assistance by GSL in KSL’s capability building program, which include Transfer of Technology/Design Support, Infrastructure development consultancy, skilling of KSL personnel and assisting KSL in executing new construction as well as repair of ships in Kenya.
