A 1993-batch IPS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, Singhal took charge at ITBP headquarters in New Delhi, where he received a ceremonial Guard of Honour. The Ministry of Home Affairs’ arrangement remains in effect until a regular appointment is made or further orders are issued.
Singhal brings extensive experience in policing and border security. He has previously served in the ITBP as Deputy Inspector General at Sector Headquarters, Dehradun, and as Inspector General of the Eastern Frontier. His career also includes assignments in the Uttar Pradesh Police, service with the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Kosovo and a senior role in the Border Security Force.
The ITBP guards approximately 3,488-km Line of Actual Control between India and China, operating across challenging high-altitude terrain from Ladakh to Arunachal Pradesh. Its responsibilities include border surveillance, security and maintaining operational readiness along the Himalayan frontier.
Singhal’s additional charge places him at the helm of two Central Armed Police Forces simultaneously, with the ITBP continuing its border-security duties while the government moves towards appointing a regular Director General.
