New Delhi: Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh launched revamped websites of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and Department of Defence (DoD) on October 19, bringing the platforms in line with the Digital Brand Identity Manual (DBIM) 3.0 and Guidelines for Indian Government Websites (GIGW) 3.0. The upgrade focused on accessibility, usability and public access to official defence information.

The websites provide information on defence policies, government initiatives, activities, notifications and other defence-related updates. Content is available in 22 Indian official languages, widening access for citizens, veterans, industry stakeholders and other users beyond English-language communication.
The redesign aligned with the government’s Digital India and e-governance agenda, which seeks to improve transparency and citizen-centric delivery of information through modern digital platforms. For the defence sector, accessible and consolidated official information can also help industry participants and researchers follow policies and institutional developments.
However, the launch is primarily a digital-governance upgrade, not a change in defence operations or procurement. Its value will depend on whether the websites remain updated, easy to navigate and accessible in practice—not merely on compliance with the prescribed standards.
The revamped portals widened multilingual access to defence information, but their real test is the quality, accessibility and timeliness of the information they deliver.
