Chandipur [Odisha]: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully flight-tested its indigenously developed Pralay quasi-ballistic missile off the Odisha coast on November 5, 2026. The test took place at the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur, as part of the missile's user evaluation trials, marking another milestone in India's indigenous conventional missile development programme.

According to reports, the missile was launched from Launch Complex-3 and successfully engaged two simulated targets located approximately 500 kilometres away. The test demonstrated missile's ability to strike targets at extended ranges, with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulating DRDO and the teams involved in the successful trial.
Pralay is a solid-propellant, surface-to-surface quasi-ballistic missile equipped with advanced guidance and navigation systems for high-precision strikes. It has a reported operational range of approximately 150 to 500 kilometres and can carry different types of warheads against a range of targets. Its quasi-ballistic flight profile provides greater flexibility compared with conventional ballistic trajectories.
The missile is developed by DRDO's Research Centre Imarat in collaboration with several other DRDO laboratories, including the Defence Research and Development Laboratory and the Advanced Systems Laboratory. Bharat Dynamics Limited and Bharat Electronics Limited serve as key development-cum-production partners, alongside other Indian industries and MSMEs.
The latest trial followed earlier successful flight tests in July 2025, which validated the missile's maximum and minimum range capabilities, and a salvo launch of two missiles in quick succession in December 2025 during user evaluation trials.
The continued testing programme supports India's effort to strengthen its indigenous precision-strike capabilities and reduce dependence on imported missile systems. Pralay's successful evaluation brought the system closer to its intended induction into the Indian Armed Forces.
