Ahmedabad: Gujarat is strengthening its defence and aerospace startup ecosystem, with i-Hub Gujarat and deep-tech enablement network SanchiConnect supporting around 30 startups with access to investors, industry leaders, mentors and technology showcases. The initiative is aimed at helping emerging companies move from technology development and incubation towards market adoption and scalable defence applications.
The programmes cover startups working across defence, drones, aerospace, space and other strategic technologies. SanchiConnect’s TattvaX accelerator, run with i-Hub Gujarat, provides expert mentorship, workshops on go-to-market and regulatory readiness, investor access and opportunities for proof-of-concept and pilot projects with corporates and government agencies.

The second TattvaX cohort has focused on technologies including embedded systems, drone components, edge AI, real-time systems, cybersecurity hardware, sensors, robotics, autonomous systems and defence applications. The programme is designed to remain equity-free and help startups validate technologies before moving towards commercialisation.
The ecosystem has also provided startups with direct exposure to defence and space stakeholders. At a June Defence and Space Tech Startup Display Day organised by i-Hub Gujarat and the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry, more than 30 supported startups showcased technologies spanning UAVs, counter-drone systems, defence communications, surveillance, cybersecurity, satellite technologies, autonomous robotics, advanced materials and AI-enabled defence applications.
A separate SKYTECH INDIA 2026 programme brought together startups and experts from organisations including DRDO and ISRO, with 30 startups receiving sector-specific mentorship across the space, aerospace and drone ecosystem. i-Hub also facilitated industry engagement, while 50 Letters of Intent were exchanged between i-Hub-supported startups and the Knowledge Chamber of Commerce and Industry during the summit.
The emphasis is increasingly shifting from simply displaying technologies to connecting startups with actual users, investors and industrial partners. More than 20 industry representatives participated in a two-day Demo Day under the second cohort, giving startups opportunities to understand market requirements, refine their products and explore partnerships.
i-Hub Gujarat’s broader mandate is to build an end-to-end innovation ecosystem connecting government, academia and industry. Its programmes include initiatives such as the Mind to Market Defence Innovation Challenge, which seeks to connect young innovators with defence-sector problem statements and help develop solutions that can strengthen India’s defence industrial base.
The state’s wider policy environment is also increasingly focused on strategic technologies. Gujarat’s Science, Technology and Innovation Policy 2026–31 has identified defence and space alongside AI, semiconductors and quantum technologies as frontier sectors, backed by a proposed ₹1,000-crore Innovation Fund for research, startups and advanced technology development.
For India’s defence ecosystem, such programmes address a critical challenge: moving indigenous deep-tech ideas from laboratories and prototypes into deployable products and businesses. By connecting startups with defence users, established industry, investors and research institutions, Gujarat is attempting to build a pipeline in which emerging technologies can progress from proof-of-concept to pilot projects and eventually commercial production.
The initiative also reflects the expanding role of startups and private deep-tech companies in India’s defence industrial base, particularly in areas such as unmanned systems, counter-drone technology, AI, surveillance, cybersecurity and advanced aerospace technologies.
