Mumbai: Defence firm AZAD Engineering has secured a contract from Gas Turbine Research Establishment under Defence Research and Development Organisation, Ministry of Defence, Govt. of India for end-to-end manufacturing, assembly and integration of complete assembled advanced turbo gas generator engine.

The long-term contract involves the complete manufacturing and assembly of an advanced gas turbine engine, crucial for defence applications.

AZAD will start delivering the first batch of fully integrated engines by early 2026, the company said on Thursday.

The advanced gas turbine engine is designed with a single-spool turbojet setup, incorporating components such as a four-stage axial flow compressor, an annular combustor, a single-stage axial flow uncooled turbine, and a fixed exit area nozzle. This sophisticated propulsion system is suitable for various defence applications,” AZAD Engineering informed the bourses.

Pointing out that this selection demonstrates confidence in AZAD’s engineering and manufacturing capabilities, the company said it comes at a time when India has consistently showcased its ability to create top-notch engine designs with cutting-edge indigenous technology but the challenge remains in turning these exceptional designs into engines that deliver the desired output or meet mission-critical objectives.

AZAD Engineering chairman & CEO Rakesh Chopdar said the company would be turning the groundbreaking design into a reality at its facilities in Hyderabad. “From power, aviation, defence and oil & gas, we have now expanded our manufacturing capabilities to provide end-to-end production for a fully assembled advanced turbo engine, creating a massive opportunity to build a complete solution for propulsion systems for the nation and global defence requirements,” he said.
