New Delhi: Tata Boeing Aerospace Limited (TBAL) has rolled out the 400th fuselage for the AH-64E Apache attack helicopter from its advanced aerospace manufacturing facility in Hyderabad, marking a major milestone for India's growing role in global defence production.
TBAL is a joint venture between Boeing and Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL). The fuselages manufactured in India are integrated into complete Apache helicopters supplied to customers worldwide, including the US Army and India's own Apache fleet.

Established in 2016, TBAL operates a 52,000-square-metre facility in Hyderabad, employing more than 750 engineers and technicians.
The facility uses robotics, automation and advanced aerospace manufacturing technologies to produce Apache fuselage structures.
The milestone is particularly significant because these are not components manufactured solely for India's requirements. Indian-made fuselages are entering an international production line supporting Apache operators across the world.

The Apache is operated by 19 countries, with around 1,300 aircraft currently in service.
TBAL's production milestone therefore highlights India's transition from being primarily a defence equipment importer to becoming an aerospace manufacturing partner integrated into major global defence programmes.
For India's defence-industrial strategy, such partnerships can also create opportunities to build expertise in aerostructures, precision manufacturing, robotics, quality control and complex aerospace supply chains.
India is increasingly trying to position itself as a global manufacturing and export hub for defence and aerospace components, using partnerships with major international defence companies to develop domestic industrial capabilities.
From producing components for the Apache to potentially supplying the global aerospace market, India's defence industry is increasingly moving from “Make in India” towards “Make in India for the World.”
