Munitions India, Drogo Aerospace join forces to build indigenous loitering munitions and UAVs

Pune: Defence PSU Munitions India Limited (MIL) has signed an MoU with Hyderabad-based Drogo Aerospace to collaborate on the design, development and integration of indigenous UAVs and loitering munition systems, strengthening India's growing domestic unmanned-warfare ecosystem.

Under the partnership, Drogo Aerospace will focus on UAV design, development and manufacturing, while MIL will contribute expertise in munitions, warheads, explosive systems, payload filling, fuzing and modular munition development.

The companies will subsequently work on UAV–munition integration, safety evaluation, field and range trials and quality certification, taking the systems towards operational validation.

A key focus of the collaboration is Drogo Aerospace's Delta Wing Kamikaze UAV/loitering munition, which the company says has recently undergone successful testing in Hyderabad.

The platform is being developed with a claimed mission range of up to 1,000 km and a 20–30 kg warhead capacity, according to the company. These figures remain development-stage specifications rather than an operational capability currently fielded by the Armed Forces.

The partnership is significant because it combines two previously distinct capabilities: private-sector UAV engineering and DPSU-level munition technology.

Modern conflicts have demonstrated the growing importance of loitering munitions, which combine the surveillance and persistence of drones with the strike capability of precision weapons.

For India, integrating these technologies domestically could help create a broader ecosystem spanning surveillance UAVs, autonomous platforms, warheads, payloads and precision strike systems.

The development also builds on Drogo Aerospace's existing defence business. Earlier this year, the company delivered 41 JK-250e surveillance drones to the Indian Army under a ₹72-crore contract, demonstrating an existing production and military-delivery track record.

For MIL, the partnership expands the role of a traditional ammunition manufacturer into an emerging area where munitions and unmanned platforms increasingly converge.
