New Delhi: Telangana is positioning itself as a major destination for India's expanding aerospace and defence ecosystem, with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy inviting Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to inaugurate Raksha Expo 2026, which will be organised alongside the Invest Telangana Global Summit 2026 in Hyderabad.
The global summit is scheduled to take place from December 7 to 9 at Bharat Future City, with the defence expo planned as a major component of the event. The proposed expo will bring together the aerospace, defence and space sectors through dedicated conferences, an air show, an industrial exhibition and live demonstrations of land-based defence systems.

Reddy has also sought extensive participation from India's major defence public-sector undertakings, including HAL, BEL, BDL and Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders, along with DRDO laboratories, to showcase indigenous defence technologies.
The state has further requested participation from the Army, Navy and Air Force, including the displays of their latest defence systems and a static aircraft exhibition. Support has also been sought for participation by Indian Air Force aircraft and the Suryakiran and Sarang aerobatic teams.
The significance of Raksha Expo 2026 goes beyond displaying military hardware.
Telangana is attempting to use the event as a platform to bring together defence PSUs, private companies, startups, DRDO laboratories, foreign defence delegations and international defence organisations.
The Chief Minister has specifically sought assistance in facilitating meetings with foreign defence ministries, bilateral defence delegations and international defence organisations during the expo. That could give the event an important defence diplomacy and business-development dimension, alongside its traditional exhibition role.
For Telangana, the objective is also closely linked to attracting defence manufacturing and technology investments.
The state has already identified aerospace and defence as one of its focus sectors, while Hyderabad has an established ecosystem spanning aerospace, defence research and advanced technology.
The state's defence push is not limited to exhibitions. CM Reddy also informed the Defence Minister that Telangana had agreed to allocate 416.18 acres in Mahabubnagar district for a project of the Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL), with the land to be leased for 33 years at a nominal annual rent of ₹1 for the entire parcel. The state also agreed to acquire an additional 750 acres for the Adilabad airport after the Defence Ministry sought a total of 1,500 acres.
The developments are significant because Hyderabad already hosts major defence R&D infrastructure. In June, Rajnath Singh inaugurated an Advanced Weapon System Complex at DRDL, highlighting the city's role in India's missile and strategic-systems ecosystem.
India's defence-industrial strategy is increasingly moving beyond government-owned production towards an ecosystem involving PSUs, private defence companies, startups, research institutions and global partners.
If Raksha Expo 2026 succeeds in attracting major Indian and international defence companies, technology firms and delegations, it could strengthen Hyderabad's position not merely as an IT and pharmaceutical centre, but as an increasingly important aerospace, defence and strategic-technology hub.
The real competition, therefore, is not simply over who hosts another defence exhibition.
It's about which Indian states can build the industrial ecosystem capable of attracting defence manufacturing, advanced technology, R&D, investment and eventually exports.
