Bengaluru: Bengaluru-based izmo Microsystems Pvt. Ltd., the semiconductor subsidiary of izmo Limited, has successfully developed and completed defence qualification of an indigenous pitch detector, a critical avionics component used across multiple military aircraft and helicopter platforms in active service. Announced on November 3, 2026, the achievement strengthens India's efforts to reduce dependence on imported defence electronics.

The pitch detector senses an aircraft's pitch attitude and provides correction data to its gyromagnetic compass navigation system. The original component faces irregular and limited supplies from its overseas manufacturer, creating operational challenges for platforms that depend on it. izmo Microsystems has therefore developed a compatible Indian replacement to address this supply-chain vulnerability.
The company re-engineered the component without access to the original design documentation, redesigned its electronics using modern technology. Development and manufacturing take place at its Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR)-recognised semiconductor packaging facility in Bengaluru. The component subsequently qualified to MIL-PRF-38534, a military standard covering the qualification and reliability requirements of hybrid microcircuits.
The development demonstrated domestic capabilities in electronics design, advanced semiconductor packaging and high-reliability manufacturing. It also created opportunities to replace other imported or obsolete components used in defence and aerospace systems. However, izmo Microsystems has not disclosed a procurement order, production quantities, the platforms scheduled to receive the component or a commercial rollout timeline.
