Army shoots down Pak drone near LoC

New Delhi: Army has brought down a drone from Pakistan as it crossed the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district in the UT of Jammu Kashmir. A massive search operation has been launched in the area after the incident.

Army Officials said that five magazines of AK-47 rifles, 131 rounds of fire, Rs 2 lakh in cash, and other items have been recovered from the packet attached to the drone.

They said, a buzzing sound of a drone was heard by locals of the Sunderbani area around 10.30 pm last night. They informed the security agency about it.

A joint search operation was launched, in which the drone along with consignment was recovered.

The Defence Spokesperson in Jammu said that preliminary investigations suggest that the drone fell after hitting a tree or hill. The location from where the drone was recovered is approximately 2-3 km from the Line of Control.

Earlier this week, an infiltration attempt was foiled and one intruder was killed while two were captured alive when they were trying to come to this side with huge narcotics.

Also on April 1, the Border Security Forces opened fire at a drone allegedly belonging to Pakistan, forcing it to return to the neighbouring country.

BSF had said, "A drone was forced to return to Pakistan after BSF troops deployed at the India-Pakistan international in Sambha District fired towards a blinking light of a flying object observed."

This year, the Indian Army deployed indigenous anti-drone jammers and spoofers in the Jammu and Punjab region to counter the drones carrying weapons, explosives, and drugs, launched by terrorist organizations with bases in Pakistan.

Using the system which has worked effectively, Army successfully prevented many such drones from flying into India.
