New Delhi: At least five Army jawans died after their vehicle caught fire in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch area on April 20, 2023. The incident took place on a highway in the Bhata Dhurian area.

A Defence Spokesperson in Jammu said, "Today, at about 3 pm, one vehicle of the Indian Army, while moving from Bhimber Gali to Sangiot in district Poonch (J&K), caught fire."

"In this tragic incident five soldiers of the Indian Army have lost their lives," he said.

According to sources, the fire may have broken out due to a lightning strike. Soon after the incident, Jammu-Poonch highway was closed for traffic.
