New Delhi: A 41-member delegation from the Brazilian Army Command and General Staff College visited New Delhi and Agra as part of a foreign study tour, strengthening military-to-military engagement between India and Brazil. During the tour, the delegation visited key defence establishments and sites of historical and cultural significance, gaining insights into India’s military capabilities, heritage and cultural diversity. The Indian Army said that the programme provided an opportunity to exchange professional knowledge and deepen institutional ties between the two armed forces.
The visit built on established defence cooperation between the two countries. India and Brazil signed a defence cooperation agreement in 2003, ratified in 2006, and hold regular defence consultations. Their eighth Joint Defence Committee meeting took place in Brasília in July 2025.
Defence ties have also expanded into maritime cooperation. In December 2025, the Indian Navy, Brazilian Navy and Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited signed an agreement concerning maintenance of Scorpène-class submarines and other military vessels, covering technical information, maintenance practices, spare-parts support and personnel training.
The latest delegation visit adds to the two countries’ wider strategic partnership, which includes military training, defence-industry collaboration and exchanges between military institutions. No new procurement agreement or defence pact is announced in connection with the study tour.
