Both sides identify untapped potential for expanding existing defence and defence-industrial cooperation and exchange views on bilateral, regional and global developments. Maritime security emerges as a major area of common interest, according to India’s Ministry of Defence.

The meeting follows discussions on October 12 between the Indian defence delegation and representatives of Cyprus’s business and defence industries. The engagement explores potential cooperation in defence, space and dual-use technologies, alongside opportunities for collaboration between Indian and Cypriot companies.

The visit also builds on the momentum generated by Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides’ visit to India in May 2026, which elevated bilateral ties through a strengthened strategic partnership. India and Cyprus have since sought to broaden cooperation across defence, maritime affairs and emerging technologies.

For India, closer engagement with Cyprus offers another channel to strengthen its presence in the Eastern Mediterranean and develop defence-industrial links with a European partner. For Cyprus, cooperation with India provides opportunities to explore industrial partnerships, technological collaboration and support for maritime security.
