The meeting takes place as India and the US deepen military cooperation across the Indo-Pacific. Paparo’s visit focuses on shared security priorities, including digital transformation, emerging technologies, regional strategic stability, defence energy resilience and maritime security.
Earlier during the visit, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh meets Paparo in New Delhi, with both sides discussing ways to strengthen India-US defence and strategic cooperation and exchanging views on regional and global developments. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also meets the USPACOM commander and discusses advancing the security partnership and maritime cooperation in the Indo-Pacific.
The engagement also follows the recent Yudh Abhyas 2026 exercise, where Indian and US Army units conduct integrated training across mountainous and desert environments. Earlier, General Dhiraj Seth and US Army Pacific Deputy Commander Lieutenant General Joel B Vowell discuss Indo-Pacific security and ways to improve interoperability through joint training and military exercises.
The latest interaction therefore reinforces the military-to-military component of the broader India-US partnership, with the focus increasingly extending beyond traditional exercises towards interoperability, emerging technologies, maritime security and multi-domain operational cooperation.
