New Delhi: US Pacific Command (USPACOM) chief Admiral Samuel Paparo meets Vice Admiral Vineet McCarty, Commander-in-Chief of India’s Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC), on October 12 to discuss continued defence cooperation ahead of Paparo’s onward visit to Japan. The meeting underscores efforts by New Delhi and Washington to deepen their strategic partnership and strengthen cooperation in the Indo-Pacific.

The US Embassy in India announces the meeting, describing it as part of the continuing progress of the US–India Major Defence Partnership. Discussions focus on cooperation between the two countries’ armed forces and their shared objective of contributing to a safer Indo-Pacific region.

The engagement with the ANC chief is significant given the command’s role in India’s maritime security architecture. Located in the strategically important Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the tri-service command supports India’s presence near key sea routes connecting the Indian Ocean and the wider Indo-Pacific.

Paparo’s meeting with Vice Admiral McCarty forms part of a broader series of engagements during his India visit. The US commander also holds discussions with senior Indian defence officials, including Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, on strengthening bilateral defence and strategic cooperation and exchanging views on regional and global developments.

Paparo’s onward visit to Japan places the engagement within a wider regional context, as the United States continues defence consultations with Indo-Pacific partners. For India, closer military engagement with Washington supports maritime coordination while advancing its own regional security interests.
