New Delhi: The oldest military college of the country, Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC) at Dehradun will soon be inducting girl cadets for the first time in its history of 100 years. The RIMC which celebrated its centennial founding day yesterday on March 13, will give admission to the first lot of 5 girl students in the forthcoming academic session starting from July this year.

While presiding over the Centennial Founders' Day Celebrations of RIMC, the Governor of Uttarakhand Lt. Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd) informed that 5 girl cadets will become a part of this prestigious institution from the July 2022 session.

The Army Chief Gen MM Naravane in his congratulatory message to the RIMC emphasized that he was confident about the preparations made by the college to welcome and integrate girl cadets into the fold of the prestigious institution. "Girls joining the college will be its centennial moment," he said.

General Naravane also highlighted the stellar contribution of the RIMC and the alumni in the service of the nation for the past 100 years. He called upon young cadets to prepare for future leadership roles and challenges which would be shaped by rapid changes in technology.

The Rashtriya Indian Military College, considered as the 'Nursery of Leadership' for the armed forces, is an Inter-Service establishment that is administered through the Army Training Command under the aegis of the Ministry of Defence. It was inaugurated on 13 March 1922 by the then Prince of Wales Prince Edward VIII who in his inaugural speech had mentioned the old Indian tradition of 'Guru and Chela' which later became the rock bed of the college ethos. It provides Public School education to young boys in the age group of 11½ to 18 years, who are selected through an All India Competitive Examination.
