New Delhi: Indian Army is all set to launch an app 'Anuman' which will provide detailed weather projections to the military personnel deployed along China border. The app will be launched on May 19 in the national capital.

The "Anuman App" has been developed by the National Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF) and the Indian Army after signing an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) in November 2022.

As per the MoU, the Indian Army will help NCMRWF with a collection of observations along Northern borders and will in the near future receive customized products for higher-resolution weather forecasts for its components along the borders with China.

Defence sources said, the app is critical since the meteorological inputs for the commanders in the field have a greater significance. It helps them to plan in carrying out operations. The Artillery units use them on a regular basis to "temper its weapon platforms before firing projectiles through the earth's atmosphere".

It is pertinent to mention here that the Army is observing 2023 as the 'Year of Transformation' and has been working on several technologies-driven projects that include a battlefield surveillance system, Situational Awareness Module for the Army, Situational Reporting Over Enterprise-Class GIS Platform (E-Sitrep), Project Avagat, Project Indra among others.
