New Delhi: The Army Design Bureau (ADB) has developed an innovative ‘Vidyut Rakshak’, an Internet of Things-enabled system that performs the task to monitor, protect, and control generators. It was launched recently by Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi, Vice Chief of the Army Staff (VCOAS).

The syatem has been developed by Maj Rajprasad R S and was recently displayed during “Exercise Bharat Shakti,” which was witnessed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The innovation showcases the Indian Army’s dedication to adopting advanced technologies for operational efficiency.

This system applies to all existing generators in the Indian Army, regardless of their type, make, rating, or age. Vidyut Rakshak not only monitors generator parameters but also predicts and prevents faults, automating manual operations with a user-friendly interface, thereby saving manpower.

During Aero India 2023, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Indian Army and the Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT), IIT Delhi, for the production of innovations. Vidyut Rakshak was the first innovation to be steered under this MoU.

The transfer of technology (ToT) was formally concluded with a production agency during the ‘Indian Army Ideas and Innovation Competition’ on December 5, 2023, in New Delhi, in the presence of General Manoj Pande, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS).
