Lucknow: On the occasion of 148th birth anniversary of Iron Man Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Derence Minister Rajnath Singh and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath flagged off the ‘Run for Unity’ as part of the National Unity Day celebrations in Lucknow on Oct 31.

A large number of people including students, youth and athletes participated in the unity run. On this occasion, Defense Minister said that today we should remember all those freedom fighters and leaders who played a major role in liberating India and building independent India.

He said that it was the result of Sardar Patel’s foresight and his diplomatic and strategic ability that the unity and integrity of India could be ensured. The Defense Minister said that the ‘Run for Unity’ program is organized every year so that the young generation of the country understands the importance of the contribution of Sardar Patel and takes inspiration from him to convey the message of unity and integrity of India to the public and keep it awake.

Various departments under Ministry of Defence, including Department of Defence Production, Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO), Border Roads Organisation (BRO), Indian Coast Guard (ICG), NCC, Directorate General Defence Estates as well as the three Services organised ‘Run for Unity’ and administered the ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’ pledge at over 160 locations across the country, as part of the National Unity Day celebrations.
