New Delhi: Indian Army is bolstering its defences against the growing threat posed by Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) with a range of new counter-measures.

It has deployed a range of radars, Integrated Drone Detection Systems, and advanced weaponry, and is now seeking to strengthen its defences further with the acquisition of sophisticated Anti-UAS High Power Microwave (AUHPM) systems.

The latest Request For Information (RFI) issued by the Indian Army indicates an upgrade in their counter-UAS strategy. The RFI calls for the procurement of the Anti-UAS High Power Microwave (Mk II) System, which is expected to offer advanced surveillance, detection, and tracking capabilities.

The system will feature a microprocessor for precise targeting solutions and a High Power Microwave weapon system capable of either “hard kill" (destruction) or “soft kill" (disruption) operations.

The document specifies that the army seeks systems with at least 50 per cent indigenous content, also reflecting a push towards aatmanirbharta (self reliance) in defence technology.
