
New Delhi: Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) of the Nepali Army General Ashok Raj Sigdel is on a significant four-day official visit to India.
The Nepali COAS laid a wreath at the National War Memorial, New Delhi and was given a Guard of Honour at the South Block Lawns, followed by an interaction with the General Upendra Dwivedi, COAS, Indian Army.
Indian Army in a post on X said, “They discussed aspects of mutual interest and avenues to strengthen bilateral #DefenceCooperation. As a gesture of goodwill to the Nepali Army, #GeneralUpendraDwivedi, #COAS, presented a Target Practice Drone and Medical Equipment for establishment of Field Hospitals to General Ashok Raj Sigdel.”
It further said, “He was briefed on India’s security perspective in the region. He also engaged in high-level discussions with senior military leaders including Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff, #CNS and Air Chief Marshal A P Singh, Chief of the Air Staff, #CAS. The discussions focussed on ways to strengthen the military bonds between both the nations, reinforcing their shared commitment to global peace and security.”
General Sigdel also called on General Anil Chauhan, Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), and Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh.
Apart from the important meetings, Nepali COAS will be also conferred with the honorary rank of Indian Army General.
According to Indian Army, ”The visit, which is from 11th to 14th December 2024, aims to enhance bilateral military cooperation and explore new avenues for defence collaboration.”
General Ashok Raj Sigdel will also be briefed on India’s Security Perspective by Director General Strategic Planning (DGSP) and on the Indian Defence Industry by Additional Director General, Army Design Bureau.
