Rajnath’s visit to Sri Lanka cancelled

MoD in a statement early today had said, the entire gamut of India’s defence ties with Sri Lanka would be reviewed during the visit.

New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s two day visit to Sri Lanka beginning tomorrow has been cancelled.

The reason of cancellation was not stated, however, the political scenario has drastically changed after government has convened a special session of Parliament for five days between 18-22 September 2023.

The MoD in a social media post said, "due to unavoidable circumstances the visit of Hon'ble RM to Sri Lanka stands deferred to a later date. Shri @rajnathsingh remains committed to strong bilateral cooperation between India & Sri Lanka. RM looks forward to visiting the island nation at earliest possible time frame."

The MoD in a statement early today had said, the entire gamut of India’s defence ties with Sri Lanka would be reviewed during the visit.

The Defence Minister was also scheduled to visit Nuwara Elia in Central Sri Lanka and Trincomalee which is located in the eastern part of the country.
