New Delhi/ Udhampur: The two-day long North Tech Symposium 2022 kickstarted on Friday at Udhampur, the headquarters of the Northern Command. The symposium is being organised by the Northern Command of the Indian Army in its effort to promote the Make In India initiative in defence technology. Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi delivered the keynote address at the symposium.

Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi said that there is a dire need for Self Reliance through the advent of Technological advancement & their skilful utilization. Northern Army Commander mentioned that the Ministry of Defence has set a target for indigenous defence manufacturing of items worth USD 25 billion, including an export target of USD 5 billion, by 2025.

Highlighting the enormous challenges of the Command, Lt Gen Dwivedi said the Northern Command exemplifies the notion of a two-and-a-half front, as it has unique frontiers and varied terrain ranging from plains to super-high altitude, as also the normal to extreme weather conditions with temperatures going to as low as minus 50 to 70 degrees.

The lessons of Operation Snow Leopard have been fully assimilated and fused into our capacities of swift mobilisation, appropriate force posturing and infrastructure development in synergy with the Central Armed Police Forces and civil administration, he added.

The Symposium focuses on the Government's vision of self-reliance in defence technologies. It will showcase cutting edge technologies providing solutions to the operational challenges faced by Northern Command.
