The meeting was co-chaired by Rear Admiral Sachin Sequeira, Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Foreign Cooperation and Intelligence), and Major General Paul Maynard, Director Strategy and Policy at the Royal Navy’s Assistant Chief of Naval Staff organisation. Both sides discussed ways to expand operational engagement and cooperation in future concepts and capabilities.
The discussions coincided with Exercise Konkan-26, the annual India–UK maritime exercise conducted off Plymouth, United Kingdom. Indian Navy guided-missile stealth frigate INS Trishul participated in the exercise, which included harbour interactions and complex sea-phase drills covering air, surface and sub-surface operations.
The exercise and high-level naval dialogue supported broader efforts to improve interoperability, exchange operational practices and strengthen maritime security. India and the UK have also outlined wider defence ambitions under their Vision 2035 framework, including collaboration in advanced technologies, defence industrial cooperation and military training.
The latest meeting signaled continued efforts to broaden India–UK naval engagement. However, the announcement does not specify any new defence contract, procurement agreement or jointly developed platform.
India and the UK are seeking to deepen maritime interoperability while widening cooperation in emerging technologies and future naval capabilities.
