Built by Larsen & Toubro (L&T) at its Kattupalli shipyard, Samarthak was delivered to the Navy on August 27, 2026. The vessel features more than 75% indigenous content, supporting India’s push to strengthen domestic warship construction and reduce reliance on foreign technology.

Designed for maritime surveillance, reconnaissance and offshore patrol, Samarthak can also support low-intensity maritime operations, target deployment and weapons trials. Its ability to accommodate unmanned and autonomous systems gives the Navy a platform to test emerging technologies and evaluate indigenous defence equipment.

The vessel can additionally undertake humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, salvage operations and limited hospital-ship duties. Its multi-role design enables it to support diverse naval requirements without relying exclusively on frontline combatants.
