The agreement enables BHEL to undertake fabrication, installation and commissioning of the LM2500 Gas Turbine Infrared Suppression System, which has been indigenously designed and developed by NSTL-DRDO. The pact is domestic in nature and focuses on strengthening indigenous capabilities in defence manufacturing.

According to the company’s regulatory filing, the financial and key commercial terms of the agreement remain confidential. No joint venture structure or share exchange is involved in the arrangement.

The GT-IRSS technology plays a critical role in reducing the infrared signature of naval ships, thereby enhancing their survivability against heat-seeking threats.

BHEL said the technology transfer will support its diversification into the defence segment while reinforcing the Government of India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative. The move is also expected to expand the company’s footprint in high-value, strategic sectors beyond its traditional power equipment business.
