The squadron comprised INS Tir, INS Sujata and Indian Coast Guard Ship Sarathi. During the visit, the ships’ crews and officer trainees participated in professional exchanges, operational observation tours and sporting activities organised by the Sri Lankan Navy.
The PASSEX took place in the western seas with Sri Lankan Navy vessel SLNS Nandimithra and Fast Attack Craft P 492. The exercise focused on coordinated maritime manoeuvres, communication, navigation and operational procedures, helping both navies improve their ability to operate together.
Training exchanges also included interactions between Indian trainees and Sri Lankan naval personnel at the Naval and Maritime Academy in Trincomalee, alongside reciprocal visits to the Indian ships. Community engagement activities included a joint beach-cleaning drive and a combined musical performance by the two navies.
The visit reflected the longstanding India–Sri Lanka maritime partnership and supports India’s MAHASAGAR vision—Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions. Such port calls and exercises help strengthen professional ties, build maritime capacity and promote cooperation on shared security challenges across the Indian Ocean.
